Drive time from our Haverhill base: roughly 35-45 minutes southwest. Concord and Lexington are close-in for us and get regular crew coverage through install season.

Restraint is the design principle, and we will say so out loud. An eighteenth or nineteenth-century Colonial with correct proportions gets *worse* when you add elements to it. The right plan on most houses here is a clean, even, warm-white roofline following the architecture's own lines, plus a considered entry - lit garland, matching wreaths, maybe a pair of column wraps - and then stopping. If we think an addition to your plan would subtract from the house, we will tell you, and that happens more often in these two towns than anywhere else in the territory.

Original material means nothing gets fastened into it. Antique clapboard, original trim, hand-split shingle, period masonry. Nothing stapled, nailed, or glued - ever. On the oldest houses we frequently route entirely to the gutter line and fascia and do the rest from the entry and the ground, so that no fastener goes anywhere near original material. That is a design constraint we treat as non-negotiable rather than as a preference.

Historic district considerations. Both towns have areas with real architectural oversight. We plan installs that are reversible, non-invasive, and visually appropriate - but if your property is in a district with specific requirements, tell us on the walkthrough and we will design to them. We would rather adjust the plan than create a problem for you.

Nor'easter-ready construction. Cut runs, tightened clip spacing on exposed elevations, sealed connections, commercial-grade product.

Install October through early December. Takedown January through March. Storage included.

Permanent lighting on an antique home

This is the market where permanent lighting makes the most sense for reasons that have nothing to do with money.

One install instead of hundreds of future visits. A seasonal install means someone on a two-hundred-year-old roof twice a year, indefinitely. Over a decade that is twenty visits onto original material. Permanent is one careful install, and then nobody is on the roof again.

It disappears. A permanent channel under the eave is invisible in daylight. On an antique Colonial, that is the entire ballgame - you keep the house exactly as it reads at noon, and after dark the lines you already have get quietly lit. There is no seasonal strand along the roof edge to look at.

Warm white reads as architecture, not decoration. Which on a Concord Colonial is precisely the distinction that matters.

We assess every antique home individually. On original material, attachment is decided case by case and sometimes the honest answer is "roofline from the gutter line only, and let the entry and the trees do the rest."
